Eiffel Tower Glows in French Colors to Honor Victims

In solidarity, the lights on Las Vegas’ Eiffel Tower will remain dimmed and will continue to shine in blue, white and red, like the French flag, according to a spokeswoman for Caesar’s Entertainment Corporation. His painting Je Suis Charlie (below)- featuring a pencil being inserted into the barrel of an AK-47 – was widely shared after the attack on the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris in January.

With the state of emergency, the city of Paris has given alerts to travelers and foreign visiting the capital.

“[The attacks are] obviously likely to significantly hit the Paris economy in the near term, and there could also be a knock-on effect elsewhere in France”, said Howard Archer, the chief European economist at IHS.

About three dozen people gathered outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan, to mourn the attack in Paris and bombings in Lebanon last week that killed 43 people.

Major globally-broadcast concerts in the city, including the Al Gore-backed Live Earth and U2 live in Paris, were also cancelled on Saturday and Sunday nights.

“I would encourage people to look more into Islam and what Islam is all about before they judge and say, that was a Muslim attack”, said Nisreen Salame, one of those at the vigil. Global leaders are scheduled to descend on Paris for the event.

Tourist operators hope so. About 20,000 people a day make their way up the 1,063-foot tower, which boasts of breathtaking views of the city.

France is part of the European area of free movement and has an open border policy with most of its neighbors, including Belgium, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Another common fake was a photo of the concert of the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal which was allegedly taken at the Bataclan concert hall minutes before the terrorist attack which killed dozens of people there.

Additional security measures and police officers are in place at the tower.

One is the Eiffel Tower, typically a bright beacon of light near the banks of the Seine River.

The Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino went dark Saturday in solidarity with its French counterpart.

The extreme right-wing protesters were armed with flares and with banners reading: “Throw out Islamists” as they pushed their way through a peaceful crowd, chanting “Out the Muslims!” according to the Daily Express.
