Astros shortstop Carlos Correa named 2015 American League Rookie of the Year

Bryant became the fifth Cubs rookie named to the All-Star Game, and he became the youngest Cubs third baseman to be named to the NL All-Star team since Ron Santo (23) in 1963. 369 on-base percentage led his first-year counterparts.

Correa, who turned 21 on September 22, received 17 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes to total 124 points. Others receiving first-place votes include Matt Duffy (8), Jung-ho Kang (3), Joc Pederson (1) and Noah Syndergaard (1).

Houston Astros’ Carlos Correa was selected as the AL Rookie of the Year on Monday. Like Correa, we are going to hear a lot from Bryant in the years to come. “I (sat) back and realized that it really is a game that I grew up loving”. “I certainly exceeded my expectations this year”.

Seeking their first championship since 1908, the Cubs were swept by the NY Mets in the NLCS. Everyone that’s been a huge support system for me for this whole season.

Bryant also stole 13 bases and showed such surprising speed, aggressiveness and instincts that a major-league evaluator nicknamed him “The Untaggable Man”.

As expected, Kris Bryant and Carlos Correa were voted the top rookies in the Major League Baseball this season.

Bryant said he’d like to make more consistent contact to cut down on his league-leading 199 strikeouts, but overall couldn’t ask much more from a debut season in which he helped the Cubs reach the postseason for the first time since 2008.

Bryant has deceptive speed and baserunning ability. Finally, Delino DeShields of the Rangers finished seventh with one third place vote and one point.

Duffy had little chance to beat out Bryant, a phenom in spring training who spent less than two weeks at Triple-A before he was called up to Chicago and became an N.L. All-Star.

“He is always trying to learn and improve and doesn’t have fear of making adjustments”, Cubs hitting coach John Mallee said Monday. “He wants to be the best player in the game”. He’s the 20th unanimous victor overall, the 11th N.L. unanimous inner and the first Cub to ever be so selected.
