IAAF: IAAF confirms Russian Federation inspection team line-up

The strict action was taken by IAAF after the Independent Commission (IC) on Doping in Sports on 9 November 2015 submitted its report to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Athletes like, Yelena Isinbayeva, have been banned from the sporting world indefinitely.

Mr Pound told the Today programme that Russian Federation would have to start the process for re-accreditation of their doping laboratory and demonstrate a “willingness to make sure that the laboratory acts independently and that it is not subject to any pressures”.

Zelichenok said earlier that the IAAF was punishing Russian Federation to divert attention from its own failings. The decision, brought about by a 22-to-1 vote in favor of suspension by its council, will exclude the country’s track and field athletes from participating in worldwide competitions, including the 2016 Olympics.

Richard McLaren was quoted by ABC NewsRadio as saying the suspension of the IAAF could be a possibility when WADA releases further details from its report.

“I have devoted my life to clean sport and it’s on behalf of the innocent athletes who are Russia’s athletics future that we begin our task to ensure that fair and honest competition is guaranteed”, said Andersen in an IAAF statement.

A few believe the scandal could have bigger ramifications than the graft affair at Federation Internationale de Football Association, where president Sepp Blatter has been suspended, 14 officials and marketing executives have been indicted, and Switzerland is investigating the awarding of two World Cups hosting duties to Russia and Qatar.

“We’d like to allow WADA to have the ability to robustly examine countries, rather than rely on self-reporting”, Kenworthy said.

However, when asked about the Russian proposal, IOC President Thomas Bach said: “This is total speculation, I can not see this situation occurring at this moment”, Reuters reported. “But the best way to protect clean athletes is to be unflinching in our commitment to them, and not just in words”, said Coe.

Also Monday, Russian Olympic Committee chief Alexander Zhukov said the committee plans to establish a temporary managing committee this week for the Russian athletics federation, pending elections of a new president in January. Bach said all the implicated coaches, doctors and athletes would have to serve their sanctions, and a top-to-bottom reform of Russia’s track and field program would have to take place.

The IAAF on Sunday night responded to claims from a member of WADA’s independent commission about the possibility of it being banned from the Rio Olympics.
