Arkansas 4-game winning streak helps ease pain of slow start

Collins ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Arkansas scored three times on plays longer than 50 yards en route to its fourth straight victory, 31-14 over ninth-ranked LSU on Saturday night.

Included in those rushing numbers are a pair of long, backbreaking (for LSU’s defense) touchdown runs from Alex Collins and Jared Cornelius.

Bret Bielema isn’t one to reflect on what his team has accomplished during the course of a season. Once again, Arkansas is peaking late in the season, becoming the risky team that many people expected in the preseason.

The Rebels’ coaching staff spent Sunday’s practice teaching the players how important of a rivalry Saturday’s game is.

No. 9 LSU fell to Arkansas 31-14 in Tiger Stadium on Saturday in the “Battle for the Golden Boot”.

The news wasn’t good from Les Miles after the Tigers loss to Arkansas Saturday.

Arkansas raced to a 21-0 lead thanks to Collins and quarterback Brandon Allen’s effectiveness against a tired LSU secondary. After losing tight end Dillon Gordon earlier in the season, the Tigers saw left tackle Jerald Hawkins leave tonight’s game with an apparent ankle injury.

Arkansas (6-4, 4-2 SEC) could very well be the only 4-loss team in the College Football Playoff Poll on Tuesday. The Razorbacks defense, which has taken a significant step back from past year, slowed down Leonard Fournette and sacked Brandon Harris five times.

Memphis (8-2, 4-2 AAC) saw its CFP party-crasher hopes evaporate with its loss to Navy last week, and now sees any realistic hope of a conference title and Group of Five bowl berth go out the window as well.

Last season, Arkansas made a statement in November, beating LSU 17-0 and Ole Miss 30-0, and then going on to blow out Texas in the Texas Bowl. The sophomore didn’t rise to the occasion, completing only 6 of 19 passing attempts as LSU was held to less than 200 total yards. Arkansas would get the ball with 11:05 remaining in the game. And Missouri will be fighting to show head coach Gary Pinkel off the right way as he is resigning due to health concerns. The loss eliminates LSU from any chance of reaching the SEC Championship Game, and takes much of the air out of a season that stood at a promising 7-0 entering last week’s loss to Alabama.

Simply, there is not another team in college football that has had a turnaround like Arkansas, and few are playing better.
