Nine refugees die as boat overturns in Aegean Sea

The Homeland Security Department says refugees face the highest level of security screening of anybody entering the USA, but officials will work to allay states’ concerns.

More than 500 people have died or are missing since the beginning of the year.

One suicide bomber who blew himself up outside the French national soccer stadium in Paris was found with a Syrian passport, and prosecutors say his fingerprints match those of someone who passed through Greece in October.

Poland’s new interior minister has lashed out at the head of the European Parliament, calling Martin Schulz’s words about Poland’s migrant policies “another example of German arrogance”. He is to be the foreign minister in the new conservative government of the Law and Justice party that is to be sworn in on Monday.

Blaszczak spoke on Tuesday in reaction to recent criticism by Schulz, adding he “is detached from reality”.

Hungary’s strongly anti-immigration prime minister says the European Union is “weak, uncertain and paralyzed” in light of the migrant crisis.

Greek authorities say 1,244 refugees and economic migrants have been rescued from frail craft in danger over the past three days in the Aegean Sea, as thousands continue to arrive on the Greek islands.

The Greek authorities said they have rescued seven people, but emergency crews are still searching for between two to four people listed as missing.

The coastguard said on Tuesday four women were among the latest victims and that the search was still underway for two boys whose family said they were from Iraq.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the boat overturned, or what the passengers’ nationalities were. The worldwide Organization for Migration said more than 593,000 people have crossed this year — of which 453,000 traveled from Turkey to Greece, which has faced a massive influx of people from Syria.
