India puts its states on terror alert over possible IS attack
According to reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs had released an advisory to all states regarding the looming threat from the terror outfit and has asked to keep a close watch on people who are suspected to have links with the ISIS across the country.

India is alert to the threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS), Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday, a day after his ministry warned of a possible attack in the country by the terror group whose gunmen killed almost 130 people in Paris last Friday. It has also explored the possibility of piggy backing on terrorist groups operating in India and has opened up the possibility of ISIS sponsored terrorist action on Indian territory.
“ISIS is not a threat to any particular country but to the entire world. India is ready about ISIS”, Home Minister Rajnath Singh told journalists on the sidelines of a capacity here.
The Home Ministry advised the State Governments to beef up security at vulnerable areas, including all foreign embassies and consulates.
As per the assessment of the Indian security establishment, around 20-odd Indians are now engaged in fighting for ISIS in Iraq-Syria.
“The security arrangements for the diplomatic establishments of France, USA, UK, Germany, Russia, Australia, Turkey and Israel may be particularly reviewed andstrengthened”, it said. The advisory also directed the security establishment to be alert and take preventive measures in and around foreign missions. Fearing increased activity and support for ISIS within India, the Centre had banned the jihadi group in February this year under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act after intelligence agencies tipped off the home ministry about ISIS sympathisers looking for potential recruits.

Terming the threat from the Islamic State as a “global challenge”, the minister said: “All nations must come together to fight against it”. But what is alarming is the number of youths prevented from travelling to Syria and Iraq.
