The city had experienced incessant rain and an overcast sky during the last couple of days. “Power supply was disrupted for more than 15 hours during the weekend”. 71 people have died in rail related incidents so far.

Continuous torrential rain has paralysed most parts of the state of Tamil Nadu.

There would be decrease in rainfall as the well marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal has moved off north Tamil Nadu coast and would cross south Andhra Pradesh coast. West Tambaram, a suburb of Chennai, is one of the worst affected as hundreds of homes have been flooded.

Naturally, this has resulted in many theatres being flooded and the management has had to shut them down.

In many places, parked cars and two-wheelers have been totally submerged. Those living in the apartments found refuge in their neighbour’s place.

Jayalalithaa said that besides spending for relief and rehabilitation, the allocation would also be used for disbursement of solatium to affected people.

With the destruction, the CM directed the state officials to fasten the relief and rehabilitation thus forcing to announce 500 crores aid. After taking a stock at the situation and holding discussions with the state officials, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa allocated Rs 500 for the relief of people.
