Following the Raiders’ practice Tuesday, Smith spent several minutes talking with teammates individually, including wide receiver Michael Crabtree and quarterback Derek Carr, before leaving the building without comment.
September 11: Smith signs with the Raiders.
The charges include drunken driving with prior conviction and refusal to submit to alcohol testing, hit-and-run with property damage and vandalism causing less than $400 worth of damage – in this case to the other driver’s door.
Aldon Smith’s season is over.
The suspension is reportedly for a calendar year, meaning Smith will miss the final seven games of this season and the first nine of 2016.
FROM NFL.COM: Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith is facing a one-year suspension for substance abuse, NFL Media’s Rand Getlin reported, per a source briefed on the suspension. The scene was only a couple of miles from 49ers team headquarters, at or on the street of Smith’s former luxury apartment complex. He later returned and was contacted by officers.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Smith was a first-round pick, seventh overall, by the 49ers out of Missouri in the 2001 draft. He had three tackles in each of the last three games and a sack in the last two.
