These are the governors objecting to Obama’s Syrian refugee plan
Carson called for increased aid to the refugees, doing “more to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless” and to “protect them from being attacked by implementing immediately no-fly zone over these camps”. And there’s nothing Bobby Jindal or Chris Christie can do about it. Funded by the federal government, the post coordinates resettlement efforts with agencies such as hers and directs federal funds for refugees.

“I’m now working with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to determine the current status of any Syrian refugees that may be brought to our state in the near future”. And in that respect, the governors’ strongest bargaining chip might be their open hostility. “We don’t get any information when they want to do this”.
To officially deny entry to Syrians, governors would have to appeal to Congress to change the law and specifically exclude Syrians from the refugee program for foreign policy reasons. “No, I’m not interested in accepting refugees from Syria”.
The Obama administration has said that it would permit 10,000 refugees from Syria to enter the USA next year. More were expected for this year, but local refugee resettlement organizations have no firm numbers on how many more may arrive.
Discussions of the Paris attacks filled Auburn University Assistant French Professor and France native Dr. Bornier’s classrooms Monday.
Scott and other governors are calling for Obama’s plan to be suspended.
“Everybody’s concerned and those people travel to France they’re interested in what’s happening and they keep up with the news and…I felt a need for them to talk”, Dr. Bornier said.
Governors over a wide swath of the United States, from Idaho to Florida, said they were not confident that existing programs to screen potential refugees would exclude those who might carry out attacks.
“So we think the prudent, the responsible thing is to take a pause in this particular aspect of this refugee programme in order to verify that terrorists are not trying to infiltrate the refugee population”, he said at a news conference.
However, the State Department has said it’s unclear if state governments can legally execute such a maneuver.

Inslee said the remarks by other governors – nearly all Republicans – were “of little value except to divide people and foment intolerance”.
