Hawkeye win means big business in Iowa City

One more win would match the program record for wins in a single season, and two more wins would make for the winningest season in school history.

So not a bad start for the 2015 Hawkeyes.

The Minnesota (8-0) will host Iowa (4-4) in a NCAA College Football game at the Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA on November 14, 8:00 PM. The over/under for this game is 45.5 total points.

“That pig means a lot to us, ” Iowa running back LeShun Daniels said. Mayne finished with 116 receiving yards on 10 catches in the game. They closed to within six points late in the third quarter on a 2-yard TD run by Rodrick Williams Jr., to make the score 27-21.

The scoring exploded in the final frame, with Beathard rushing in for another touchdown in the first minute of the period, boosting the Hawkeyes’ lead to 12 after failed two-point conversion attempt.

From there, the Hawkeyes forced a pair of punts but went nowhere offensively and allowed a 42-yard pass from running back Shannon Brooks to tight end Drew Wolitarsky with 5:32 left that cut Iowa’s lead to 33-28.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Hawkeyes are 11-point home favorites versus the Golden Gophers after opening as an 11.5-point favorite.

For two good defenses – Iowa has one of the best in the country – there was a shocking amount of offensive success. “And tomorrow with both the wrestling and football, and then the mens and women’s basketball, this is going to be a fantastic weekend”, he said. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 8-0 and 5-3 against the spread.

“It’s a tribute to how hard this team worked in the offseason and how we’ve worked to continue to improve each and every week”, said Beathard, who completed 18-of-26 passes for 213 yards and rushed for 50 more on 10 carries against the Golden Gophers. He had 114 yards on nine catches in the 31-17 win over Iowa State in Week 2.

Whether or not Iowa gets a spot in the college playoffs has yet to be determined, as three regular season games, including an away game against a Nebraska team that stunned MI State and has nothing to lose, and a Big Ten Championship stand in their way. Earlier Saturday at Kinnick, 42,287 saw Iowa’s wrestling team score an 18-16 victory over top-ranked Oklahoma State. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Tigers at least an 85 percent chance of winning each of those three games, and like the Crimson Tide, they’ll be a heavy favorite in their conference championship. Thrown in that the game is being under the lights, the Gophers announcing this week that Tracy Claeys is their head coach going forward, and Iowa finally being patting on the back by the national media/pundits/committee members and everyone telling them how great they are and you get a freaky and peculiar set of circumstances for this game.

With the loss the Gophers dropped to 4-6 on the season. The Hawkeyes had a one-point lead Saturday at IN, and a four-point lead at Wisconsin.

“We will compete the last two games and do everything we can to get bowl eligible”, Claeys said.
