Volkswagen Offers $1000 Compensation to Diesel auto Owners
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency claims the affected cars, with 2-liter four-cylinder diesel engines, emit 10 to 40 times the allowable amount of harmful nitrogen oxide while driving. The package also includes free 24-hour roadside assistance for three years.

However, Robert Hilliard, an attorney representing hundreds of owners of diesel cars covered by the EPA investigation, cautioned that consumers signing up for payments should be mindful of any fine print that would agree to arbitration instead of litigation.

Volkswagen Australia has not made a local public statement relating to the emissions scandal since it announced on October 9 a voluntary recall for vehicles affected by the diesel cheat.
