‘The Flash’: All Grodd Wants Is A Family in ‘Gorilla Warfare’

Tonight’s episode of The Flash brings back Joe West’s (Jesse L Martin) worst nightmare…

With the team already down a man while Barry slowly moves around using a cane, it’s also terrible timing for Harry to decide that he’s going to leave this Earth behind and return home and take care of Zoom himself.

Caitlin treats Harry, who accepts her offer of team-ship, and Team Flash regroups to deal with Grodd once and for all. That’s a awful plan, she points out (unnecessarily) to him because the speedster that seems more demon than anything else will just kill him.

The S.T.A.R. Labs team plus Harrison Wells rescues her, but they realize they need to do something about Grodd. It’s a bit of an on-the-nose direction for the storyline to take, although we avoid outright cliche with it. I mean, it’s not as if Grodd climbs the Empire State Building with Caitlin in his hands or anything.

Despite Team Flash’s continued inability to separate Harry from Harrison Wells, Caitlin manages to convince Harry to stick around in Earth-1 a bit longer. He wanted answers on how he became the way he is and Caitlin explained to him that the particle accelerator explosion is the reason behind what he is now. In fact, he can figure out which breach to send him through (though the breaches on Earth-Two are in different places than their Earth). They have to lure him to the right spot, and that’s where The Flash comes in. Flashbacks to Zoom have him moving like a normal human, but Iris knows how to help Barry and its by calling on Henry to pay a visit. “Enter Zoom” left Barry a battered person, not only in body but in spirit. “He showed everyone in Central City what he did to me, that I’m powerless to stop him”. After eyeballing his son’s promising charts, Henry says that he just got back from camping – where he learned that “sometimes you have to slow down to get back to where you want to be”. Furthermore, the telepathic animal wants to recreate more of itself which worries Cisco, who fears that the city might not be able to survive with multiple versions of the gorilla roaming around, wreaking havoc.

Henry finally got to see behind the scenes of Barry’s daily life. (Cue thousands of Flash fans sitting straight up on the couch in anticipation of seeing Gorilla City.) It’s a fun little sequence, with Grodd almost fighting his way free of the breach, only to be sucked in when Barry comes through with a supersonic punch. This includes donning the Reverse Flash’s suit in order to fool Grodd, hoping that the image of his “father” will allow them to extract Caitlin to safety. Barry is forced back onto his feet, into his suit and fighting crime and I loved seeing everyone actively taking part in saving the day at the end. Fortunately, Harry can help with that. He knows a thing or two about micro-technology.

Barry is feeling good again after the battle with Grodd and with Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” serving as the soundtrack he goes and makes up with Patty, where he apologizes for keeping her in the dark about why he had been unavailable – Although, he still lies and says it was because of his dad.

Cisco bails on his first date with Kendra Saunders upon “vibing” a vision of a “birdman”. He doesn’t get the full picture until they kiss later when he shows up to make it up to her an blames his running out on an emergency with the CCPD.
