Sherwood’s signing comes one week after the Blue Jackets traded for ex- Mahoning Valley Phantom Brandon Saad and gave him a six-year, $36 million extension.

Who is Kole Sherwood, Columbus’ Newest Forward?

Sherwood said he signed the actual contract July 6, but a mock signing with team president John Davidson took place July 7, as well as a press conference.

Over five National Hockey League seasons with the Blue Jackets, Calvert has tallied 42 goals and 44 assists in 209 games. He led the league in goals. “I hope I can make some more”.

Patterson said Sherwood’s “skills jumped out at you – his strength, his power, his skating”. This fall, Kiefer will be playing for Miami University.

Part of becoming a “hockey town” is that NHL level talent will come from Columbus and that is a corner that this market, with the help of the Blue Jackets, has turned in the last few weeks. Finally, they’d get their shot to see a fan who spent their childhood sitting in the stands skate out on the ice with their favorite team. “I know he wasn’t drafted, but we invited [Kole] and his brother to our development camp with a lot of really good players there, and they both played very well”.

He had planned to play two years for Youngstown of the United States Hockey League and then attend Boston University beginning in 2017, but Youngstown and Boston U. were notified of Sherwood’s decision after he visited London’s facilities and met with management on Monday. He played midget hockey with the Ohio Blue Jackets of the T1EHL. Loney is the son of Phantoms co-owners Troy and Aafke Loney.
