Seattle’s gum wall removal upsets Vancouverites – but is this really the end?

Crawford said the cleaning crew will collect and weigh the gum each day it is removed.

Another user Tweeted: “The gum wall in Seattle was washed away and it deeply saddens me”.

Instagram was flooded with postings from tourists and residents alike, recalling their time at the gum wall.

For 20 years, people stuck their used gum on a wall at the Pike Place Market.

Tourists and locals have been sticking their used chewing gum on the walls of a section of P… It’s the first time the Gum Wall has been completely wiped clean, and the process is expected to last into rest of the week. Since then, the “gum wall” has expanded beyond one wall and onto other walls of an alley, pipes and even the theater’s box office window.

Rose Gambrel said: “Am I the only one whos super happy theyre removing the Seattle gum wall?”

“We’ll find out at the end of the week how right my guesstimate really is”, she said.

The more than 25 years and upwards of 2,000 pounds of gum will take three days to remove with an industrial steam machine, Kelly Foster of Cascadian Building Maintenance told The Times.

The wall has always been covered by wads of gum in many colours, a few stretched to make elaborate messages and designs.
