The observatory, which relies on a network of activists on ground, said at least 33 IS militants were killed over the past three days as a result of the intensified French air strikes.

Earlier, true to their vow of retaliation, France carried out massive raids in Syria, their biggest to date, in co-ordination with USA forces, striking the ISIS stronghold in Raqqa just days after the terror outfit carried a series of coordinated attacks that killed around 129 people.

Meanwhile, Russian forces have also been bombing IS targets in Syria after security services confirmed a Metrojet flight that came down in Sinai, killing 224, was bombed.

Syrians living under Islamic State rule in its de facto capital of Raqqa fear they will pay the price for the group’s Paris attacks with more air strikes.

A USA defense official says Russian Federation has conducted a “significant number of strikes” in Raqqa in northern Syria in the past several hours.

On Sunday, French warplanes commenced retaliatory strikes against the IS, hitting the terror group with 30 air strikes in a single day.

“Twenty bombs were dropped”, the statement said, adding that the mission had taken place Sunday evening.

The flow of information from Raqqa is highly restricted by Islamic State, which has sought to control communication and movement by its residents, activists say.
