320-acre wildfire threatens homes in Northern California

One blaze burned 25 acres after it was likely sparked by lightning near Somerset. All voluntary evacuations have been lifted and roads have reopened, while Lagoon Valley and Pena Adobe parks are closed. When firefighters initially responded, the blaze was just 5 to 10 acre fire.

Illegal fireworks were believed to have ignited fires that threatened homes and destroyed property in several locations, as well as caused an explosion at a block party that sent at least five people to the hospital, authorities across California said Sunday as they assessed damages and injuries from the July Fourth celebration. About 130 firefighters are on the scene and had the fire 50 percent contained as of this morning.

The fire started Saturday night and embers were quickly spread by winds that gusted to 40 miles per hour, said Mark Mazzaferro, a spokesman for the city between San Francisco and Sacramento.

At one point, many streets were closed and neighborhoods were under a voluntary evacuation order. Vacaville police tweeted that residents of Skyview Place, Araquipa Court and El Matador Street have been evacuated to the Three Oaks Community Center.

Cal Fire and firefighters from Yolo and Contra Costa counties assisted Vacaville fire crews, according to fire officials.
