Delta Will No Longer Let Pets Fly As Checked Baggage
Delta won’t let you check your pets as baggage next year. Animal advocates are sure to cheer the move.

United Airlines also doesn’t allow pets to be checked in as baggage. “We strongly advise against transporting your animal companion by air in the cargo area”, PETA says.
Beginning March 1, pets that are too large to fit under a passenger’s seat in the main cabin will have to travel as freight through Delta Cargo.
There will be an exception for certain members of the military, as well as customers with service or emotional support animals.
Delta is changing its policy for travelers with pets. The airline also will not guarantee that pets flying on the cargo service will be on the same flights as their owners. Costs generally run somewhere between $200 to $400 one way on domestic flights, depending on the size of the animal and the route among other factors.

Delta imposed restrictions on pet travel in the cargo compartment in 2011, banning snub-nosed dogs and cats from being checked after a number of incidents with breeds with respiratory problems, according to The Atlanta Constitution-Journal.
