South Africa captain AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat in the T20 worldwide against the hosts (Tigers).

It was a significant day for South African spin bowling under admittedly helpful conditions as Lee and Aaron Phangiso took six wickets between them to outclass their Bangladesh counterparts and outwit the home team’s tactical plan. “It’s the excellence of the team”, du Plessis, declared player-of-the-match, said in the post-match meeting. South Africa have opted for a largely inexperienced attack, including uncapped spinner Eddie Leie, but South Africa’s rookies did not let them down and have perhaps even caused a few selection pickles going forward.

Arafat Sunny gave Bangladesh an animating start, cleaning up de Villiers in the first over.

Soumya Sarkar top-scored for Bangladesh with 37 runs. “We can fix it in the next match”, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza said.

De Kock had been getting plenty of joy on the leg side but went for one big shot too many and was caught at mid-wicket off Arafat Sunny to depart for 44 from 31 deliveries, including four fours and two sixes.

De Villiers opened the innings only the second time in his Twenty20 global career and conceded four dots before he picked up Mashrafee Mortaza at cover in the last ball of the over.

South Africa will hold a training session at the SBNCS in Mirpur from 13h30 – 16h30.

For Bangladesh, Nasir was the pick of the bowlers bringing Bangladesh back into the game.

Du Plessis said it was important to make a statement early on in the tour ahead of the One-Day worldwide (ODI) series starting on Friday.

David Miller contributed 30 runs from 28 balls and with Rilee Rossouw’s 19 from 6 balls, they put on an unbeaten 33 run 5th wicket partnership. You can not just be aggressive say against Shakib al [Hasan] who is playing to win. In the absence of the senior pacemen, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, and with the next tier, Kyle Abbott, David Wiese, Kagiso Rabada, breathing down his neck, Parnell had the ideal opportunity to distinguish himself but he did not.
