Tuscaloosa police release body cam footage of November 8 arrests
The Tuscaloosa Police Department just released body cam video from a loud party complaint that led to the arrest of three University of Alabama students. Video footage captured by others at the apartment shows an officer using a taser on one of the students while he is on the ground holding his hands up and asking for the officers to stop.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is conducting an investigation in response to a series of startling videos posted on Sunday November 8th.
The building’s residents have said football fans were celebrating Alabama’s football win over Louisiana State when police were called.
Three officers involved in the arrests were put on paid administrative leave. Caroline Giddis was arrested on charges on obstructing governmental operations and harassment.
“Needless to say once I started receiving the videos and watching what occurred, I was deeply disturbed by it and disappointed in the way our officers responded”, he said. Macia was charged with obstructing governmental affairs and resisting arrest. The student refused to comply with the officer’s commands and attempted to push the officer out of his apartment. Officers used a stun gun on at least one person and repeatedly hit another with a baton. The officer then shoves another student out of the way and forces his way into the apartment. The students were arrested after officers responded to a noise complaint.
Anderson said the department is trying to be transparent by releasing the video.
“I’ve done told you that about 10 times, bud”, the officer said. The University is investigating the officers’ actions.

A few public criticism has been directed at the students for not cooperating, but most has focused on the officers for using what many see as excessive force.
