Third ODI: Pakistan bats first, Zafar Gohar in for Yasir Shah

Wahab Riaz played an unbeaten handy knock of 35 towards the end to take Pakistan past 200-run mark. It was Chris Woakes who made the first breakthrough.

The three run outs were chief amongst those – all three batsmen were not in the frame – while a few ill-judged strokeplay offered England’s outfielders with catching practice.

The match-up between England’s batsman and the Pakistan fast bowler is the greatest height differential in world cricket, with the bowler towering 20 inches over the man known as “Titch”.

Babar Azam’s patience finally ran out in the 11th over when he dragged a short-pitched delivery from Woakes from outside the off stump into the hands of Adil Rashid at fine leg. Pakistan slip to 161 for eight. The duo added a crucial 60 runs together before Pakistan gave England another scare.

Woakes struck in the 36th over, dismissing Iftikhar Ahmed, to pick up his second wicket.

And England’s Joe Root was just as culpable in his dismissal, when he hit straight to a boundary fielder.

Hafeez top-edges towards deep square leg and Root makes no mistake. Pakistan were 132 for three.

Taylor, though, led an alliance with Jos Buttler (49 not out) worth 117, as he posted a match-winning 67.

“We tried not to let them settle as we knew it was turning, and we just tried to be as busy as possible”, Taylor said. The pair looked assured and did not have any problems against the England bowlers despite the pitch holding up a bit and the outfield on the slower side. In comparison, Pakistan were wayward and their running between the wickets let them down. Azam departed for 22, leaving Pakistan at 45 for one.

England were unchanged for the third one-day worldwide against Pakistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Gohar is out scoring a run-a-ball 15, considering it was his debut the young lad did well.

England prevailed over Pakistan by a convincing six wickets on Tuesday to take a 2-1 lead in the one-day global series it can clinch in the last match.

Earlier, Englishmen slaughtered Pakistani leg spinner Yasir Shah in the second game, which turned out to be the key factor for their victory.

When Morgan missed an off-break from Shoaib Malik to become the fourth England wicket – debutant Zafar Gohar taking two of them – Pakistan were on top but Taylor, who thrived here in a warm-up match and the third Test, and Buttler came to their rescue.
