Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first against South Africa after a rain-delay had reduced it to a 40-overs-a-side contest. “But when I was bowling in the warm-up I just felt good rhythm so I was just itching to get on”, he said in a press conference after the match. The 20-year old ensured of repaying the faith shown in him by bagging the hat-trick in his second over of the game and ended with bowling figures of 6/16 from eight overs including three maidens.

Earlier, Kagiso Rabada became only the second man in history to claim a hat-trick in ODI during the first match against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday.

Rabada, selected ahead of the experienced Morne Morkel, struck in the third ball of his second over when he sent the off-stump of Tamim Iqbal cartwheeling.

Rabada followed up with the wicket of Soumya Sarkar, who counter-attacked with a run-a-ball 27.

Shakib hit five fours in his 51-ball 48 while Nasir made 31 off 44 with three fours and a six.

Despite the hot and humid weather, South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada bowled with a lot of energy and generated more bounce than anyone else on this pitch.

Chris Morris (2-32) plucked out Sabbir Rahman (5) a couple of overs later with a sharp delivery coming in, reducing Bangladesh to 104 for six after 23 overs.

He thus registered the best figures for a debutant in ODI Cricket beating the previous record set by Fidel Edwards when he picked 6 wickets for 22 runs. Faf du Plessis, who led the South Africans in the T20s but will now hand over the captaincy for the ODIs to Hashim Amla, said the Proteas had managed to dent the hosts’ confidence with their triumph in the shortest format.

Only Mustafizur Rahman (6-2-15-0) troubled them to some extent but the visitors were careful enough not to give him any wicket. BTV, the government-run TV network, is scheduled to broadcast the match, with a live online stream available at this link.
