385-hp Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport makes lap records nervous
Porsche has added a new sports vehicle for recreational and club racing to its fleet: The Cayman GT4 Clubsport celebrated its world premiere today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The manual gearbox in the GT4 makes way for a six-speed double-clutch transmission with paddle shifters.

Gifting the Cayman GT4 a few genuine “derived from motorsport” credibility was probably not entirely necessary given they’ve not exactly struggled to shift them as-is but it can’t do any harm the car’s already stellar reputation.
Just like it road-going sibling, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is powered by a 283kW 3.8-litre flat-six engine, positioned right behind the driver’s seat.
Porsche also made changes to the chassis with both the front axle and the lightweight strut rear suspension with transverse arms borrowed from the racing 911 GT3 Cup. Steel brake discs measure 15 inches all around with six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calipers in the rear. The Electronic Stability Programme has been expanded for slicks. The power steering is operated electro-mechanically. A racing bucket seat is, naturally, standard-fit – as is a six-point racing harness.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first non-911 factory-issued Porsche race vehicle since the 968 in the 1990s. Ensuring the GT4 can travel further at racing pace, Porsche offers 70-litre, 90-litre and 100-litre fuel tank options. It also has a built-in fire-suppression system in case things get hairy out on the track. As previously discussed, this is a proper racing vehicle, sold by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach and seeking homolgation approval for use in events like the VLN (and, by extension, Nurburgring 24-hour), Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy US, Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and the like. Mounted on the front axle are 18-inch five-bolt forged wheels with 25/64-18 tires while the 18-inch five-lug forged wheels at the rear have 27/68-18 tires.
