Crawford made his first All-Star appearance this season and was voted as the victor of this year’s National League Silver Slugger Award and the aforementioned Gold Glove Award, both in which were the first of his young career.

San Francisco captured three championships in a five-year span overall, missing the playoffs in the odd seasons – 2011, ’13 and this year. He prepares like a victor, performs like a victor. It s good news for a manager to have a guy like this. Crawford owns a. 246 career batting average with 47 home runs and 262 RBIs in 654 games in his six years with the Giants. That is nearer to the Giants standard timeline. It all added up to 4.7 Wins Above Replacement, making Crawford the leader among Major League Baseball shortstops. He is slated to receive a $1.2 million signing bonus due by December 15 and salaries of $5.8 million next season, $8 million in 2017 and $15 million in each of the final four years. And you know him: cool as a cucumber. He s a total professional and that s why they think so much of him. His agent, Joel Wolfe, said a deal this long without the no-trade “would have been tough”.

Just this season, Crawford showed off a few power with his swing.

There is financial security and there s security of location, and that is really important to Brandon, said Wolfe, who used players like Jhonny Peralta, J.J. Hardy, Stephen Drew and Ian Desmond to help set Crawford s value. Going back to 2012, only Andrelton Simmons has saved more runs as a result of his defense, per ESPN Stats & Info.

It’s that kind of hard-nosed yet humble drive – even behind the scenes – that gave the Giants so much confidence signing one of their core homegrown players to a $75 million deal.

Keep working hard and listening to these coaches, Crawford told the rookies. “Certainly a breakout year to say the least for Craw”.
