“I was proud to call for a wage board in April, and we have seen long overdue steps this year taken to provide thousands of workers in NY the livable wage they deserve”, said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

The Fight for $15 is funded by the Service Employees worldwide Union, which represents 1.5 million workers, and the issue has captured the support of more than 48 million potential voters who support a $15 minimum wage.
“I believe that if you work hard and work full-time, you should not be condemned to live in poverty”, Cuomo said in a statement.
“We are going to lead by example and today I announce that we’re going to establish a public-sector minimum wage”, Cuomo said at a rally in Manhattan.
Workers and supporters protest for a $15 an hour minimum wage on November 10 in NY.
Also in NY, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a raise in the wage to a minimum of $15.
New York’s current minimum wage is $8.75. She had wanted to be a medical assistant at the time, and still hopes to work in the field one day.
The announcement comes as fast-food workers organized demonstrations in the city and across the entire country, calling for union rights and $15 an hour.
Despite the wet weather, about 100 people showed up at city hall demanding an increase of the minimum wage. Second, the minimum wage is an effective and popular policy, so Rubio may regret condemning it as a “disaster”.
“The cost of housing has been going up, the cost of food has been going up, the cost of living has been going up, but our wages are still the same”, he said.
Mayor de Blasio commended Cuomo but stopped short of promising the same for city workers, who earn a minimum of $12 an hour.
“Not only is our fight connected to to everyone else in the city, it’s connected to everyone else nationwide facing the same struggles we’re facing”, said airport worker Kheila Cox.
A study from the National Employment Law Project (NELP) found that 42 percent of US workers are paid less than $15 an hour, and that women and people of color are overrepresented in that group. Home care and child care workers marched alongside fast-food employees, union members and community organisations.

Showing her support for struggling low-wage workers on Tuesday, Clinton sent a tweet. Critics of the proposed bill said that their reasons were economic rather than political; many small business in and around the city said that they would be unable to afford it.
