Malkin takes control, Penguins top Wild 4-3

Beau Bennett scored Pittsburgh’s first power play goal of the night, which was his third goal of the season. Johnston said he was glad Malkin and others were upset; they should be. We know what to expect from each guy and what each guy has to bring. The Penguins are 20-0 all-time when he has four or more points.

Malkin struck again with a beauty, beating two defensemen with a slick move and deft wrist shot at 11:11 of the second to make it 4-1. It wasn’t something we though there were going to be several players out tonight. But it didn’t look that way on Tuesday night as they finished 2-of-6 on power play opportunities.

The Penguins have scored just 35 goals in 17 games, but center Evgeni Malkin says the lack of offense isn’t their only issue. Captain Mikko Koivu has been producing at a strong clip, recording an assist in each of his last three games and notching at least a point in 13 of his last 16.ABOUT THE PENGUINS (10-7-0): While Malkin’s comments caused a stir, captain Sidney Crosby was rather direct with his feelings on Monday. The goal withstood a review to see if right winger Patric Hornqvist had interfered with Dubnyk. Scored couple of goals. Malkin somehow maneuvered around Granlund and wristed a shot past Dubnyk short side from 24 feet at 11:11.

The Penguins entered the game 27th in the 30-team National Hockey League averaging 2.06 goals per game this season, and the power play was 29th at 12.3 per cent.

Olli Maatta absorbed a nasty hit in front of the Minnesota bench, actually into the door, and had to be helped off the ice.
