Todd Bowles ‘hopeful’ Ryan Fitzpatrick can play Sunday

Kudos to Fitzpatrick for being a true gridiron warrior as he toughed out last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills to ensure he continues to put the Jets in a great position to win football games this season.

Howard Simmons Ryan Fitzpatrick has surgery on his non-throwing hand after a loss to the Bills, but insists he will be ready to play against the Texans Sunday. Fitzpatrick didn’t take snaps or practice handoffs Wednesday, which Bowles acknowledged was what was expected.

The Jets’ offense were nowhere to be found in the first half of their match as the Bills limited them to only three points at the break before quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick made two touchdown passes in the second half, but it was already too late.

Bowles said he considered pre-emptively holding Fitzpatrick out of action this week and plugging in Smith to start against the Texans, but that “it wasn’t a serious thought”.

“You got to know where he is”, Bowles said Wednesday. Geno Smith is waiting in the wings as a still relatively unproven option, and the Jets have been struggling the past four games.

The Jets also have nine days between games, giving Fitzpatrick extra time to have the stitched-up wound heal. “Everything that was conveyed to us was that he would probably be able to play if everything went well”.

“For me, it hasn’t been good”, Cromartie said.

“It’s going to take a lot of time”, he said.

Fitzpatrick was throwing off to the side during the media portion of practice but officially did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. “So, if he has to play, we’ll just keep on moving”.

The Texans won’t be an easy walk in the park as they will no doubt want to make an example of the Jets on their home turf.
