Carlos Correa: Wins AL Rookie of the Year

Bryant had a hitting slash of.275/.369/.488, with a franchise rookie record of 26 home runs and 99 RBI. He led the minor leagues in home runs in 2014, which was his first full professional season.

Correa’s red-hot rookie campaign netted him 17 first-place votes by members of the BBWAA, while Lindor received 13…making this a particularly close race for the AL’s top spot. Matt Duffy of the San Francisco Giants came in second in the voting. Lindor received the other 13 first-place votes.

Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano finished a distant third. “For me to be able to bring this award back home and celebrate with them, it means a lot for them, but for me as well”.

Correa meanwhile was a huge part in the Houston Astros returning to the postseason for the first time since 2005 with his stellar defensive play and base running.

The Manager of the Year awards for both leagues will be handed out tomorrow at 6 p.m. EST, followed by the Cy Young awards on Wednesday evening, and the Most Valuable Player awards on Thursday evening.

Correa’s slash line of.279/.345/.512 went with 22 home runs and 14 stolen bases.

“I don’t think there was any pressure for myself, just because you’re surrounded by (other young players)”, Bryant said.

Bryant and Correa each had the $507,500 minimum salary in the majors. “In high school, I kind of got labeled like I didn’t really care about playing just because I was so relaxed out there, but that couldn’t be any further from the truth”.

“It’s awesome. … Truly an honor”, said Bryant, the third baseman who debuted as the Cubs’ cleanup hitter on April 17 and finished as the No. 3 batter in a playoff lineup that carried the Cubs to 97 regular-season wins and a playoff ride to the National League Championship Series.
