Everton boss Roberto Martinez targets free agent Vlaar
Roberto Martinez stresses that Everton have held “no discussions” with former Aston Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar. Everton’s chances are bolstered by the fact that the defender has stated his desire to remain in the Premier League.

“We don’t look on it as a window to be really involved whether that’s buying or selling, it’s more a matter of continuity”.
Bringing in a new central defender seemed to be the priority for Martinez due to the fact that Phil Jagielka is now injured while John Stones is expected to be pursued by Chelsea once again and as a result, the Toffees had been linked with a move for free agent Ron Vlaar.
He explained: “I think you’re talking about a player with good experience in the Premier League and is not attached to any club”.
“At the moment, it’s not for me to talk about any players other than the ones we have in the squad”.
Everton’s ex-Villa midfielder Tom Cleverley is poised to make his first-team return on Saturday from an ankle injury sustained in August.
It’s believed Vlaar has rejected offers from Holland, Italy, Germany and Turkey in order to make himself available. “I have nothing to comment”.
The Everton fans in The Transfer Tavern are delighted that the club are looking to add experience to their back line as the only back up players in that position are Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning.

Meanwhile, Martinez has backed the idea of playing the French national anthem before all matches this weekend as a mark of respect for those affected by the terror attacks on Paris.
