In conjunction with that, Allegiant will not have to pay gate or landing fees for the New Orleans and Palm Beach flights for a year.

Lukas Johnson, vice president of network and pricing for Allegiant, said the company won’t have to cut any existing routes but was able to make a few schedule shifts to add service to those cities and expand routes in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, Pa.; Richmond, Va.; and Belleville, Ill.

Allegiant Air will start offering nonstop service to St. Pete-Clearwater worldwide Airport from Dayton, OH and Flint, MI in April, the airline announced today.

The new schedules will begin in February and April.

The arrival of Allegiant was greeted with enthusiasm by airport officials.

Those flights will be to Orlando Sanford worldwide Airport and St. Pete-Clearwater global Airport, this newspaper has learned.

The airline concentrates on smaller cities that are underserved by other airlines, or that have been abandoned altogether, and connects them to vacation destinations like Tampa Bay, Orlando and Las Vegas, where the airline is headquartered.

Allegiant’s model of offering fares averaging about half the cost of most domestic roundtrip fares has allowed the company to grow from one aircraft and one route just over a decade ago, to service in more than 100 communities. “We made the evaluation that the routes were viable for us with Southwest pulling out”. “We can often reallocate resources within a week”.

The flights will also be available to book that morning at Allegiant.com. The offer is only valid on flights purchased by November 23. The airline is in the midst of a program to upgrade to the newer, more fuel-efficient Airbus A320 and A319 jets. When Hawaii service ends, two Boeing 757s that haven’t come to the end of their maintenance cycles will be used on a few Las Vegas routes.

To keep its ticket prices low, flights don’t include onboard entertainment or frequent flier promotions.
