Villanueva returning to Mavericks after making playoffs for 1st time in 10

Charlie Villanueva and the Dallas Mavericks have reportedly agreed to a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal which is in the range of $1.4-1.5 million, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Puerto Rican newspaper El Nueva Dia first reported the news, adding that Barea has an option for a third year. However, the Miami Heat was also rumored to be interested in acquiring the diminutive guard.

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired big names this National Basteball Association Trade off-season, to power up its roster for a bid at a championship this coming National Basteball Association 2015-16 season.

They have turned to a fan favorite and solid National Basteball Association rotation player J.J. Barea will have to be the team’s last signing because of the nature of the exception – the team can offer it even if it has reached the salary cap.

The Mavs, who open summer league practice Tuesday at American Airlines Center, are also considering signing two other free agent guards, Jason Terry of the Houston Rockets and Jeremey Lin of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Mavericks already have made one of the biggest splashes in free agency with the signing of DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews. With Jordan in the team, Lin can create openings for both himself and DJ. The 6-9 Evans was a late second-round pick by the Jazz in 2010 and has career averages of 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds. When he doesn’t have the ball in his hands, he can stretch the floor by spotting up from the outside.

While some may see the money as a bit high, Barea’s value to the Mavericks makes him worth it.
