Having first teased the public with candy-coloured wireframe sculptures, Land Rover has finally revealed the all-new Range Rover Evoque Convertible to the world in spectacular style. To put it another way, it is one of the quintessential douche mobiles.

This is a touchy proposition-anything that combines “the best of both worlds” is likely to seem weird (witness the El Camino, the Nissan Murano Crosscabriolet, the Hummer Convertible, the PT Cruiser). In LA and Miami, perhaps. And now thanks to an incredible publicity stunt created to mark 45 years of the original luxury SUV but without making a splash, a Range Rover has become the first vehicle ever to drive over a bridge constructed exclusively from paper. We’re just glad to see that things are going well for Land Rover; well enough to stir up the pot, at least.
The Jaguar F-Pace would eventually spawn two new models including a Range Rover Evoque-sized SUV called the E-Pace and a large SUV called the J-Pace, which shall also be using Range Rover underpinnings.
While drop-top SUVs and crossovers are a rarity these days, Range Rover does have expertise in this field and has drawn on this in developing the Evoque Convertible.
Changes to the exteriors of the Evoque include reshaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), new slim-line LED fog-lamps, a redesigned front bumper design, restyled alloy wheels and two new grille designs.
According to the company, the Evoque Convertible meets all of Range Rover’s “rigorous standards, ensuring exceptional structural rigidity, trademark refinement, outstanding levels of safety and unrivalled breadth of capability”.

Luggage space has been compromised to make room for the roof, and the 251-litre, long, low trunk is accessed through a small, solid rear liftgate. While the Evoque Pure is priced at Rs 47.1 lakh, the SE is priced at Rs 52.9 lakh, the HSE model at Rs 57.7 lakh and the HSE Dynamic at Rs 63.2 lakh, in Mumbai, excluding taxes. The Evoque ragtop will go on sale in mid-2016 starting at $51,470 with destination.
