‘Minions’ Eyes $110M Debut in US
The good news is that the diminutive flunkies “are more (unconsciously, if perhaps also strategically) in touch with their anarchic side than the typical onesie-wearing crusader, which suits the directors Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda’s well-tuned sense of the absurd”. By the time they get to a chorus of “Hey, hey, we’re the Minions“, kids will be squirming and parents will be wishing they had skipped an unnecessary trip to the theater.

The family film follows the minions as they search for a new master by attending Villain-Con in Florida. Minions is the new 3D computer animated film that serves as a prequel to the Despicable Me franchise. Therefore, the MINIONS must face their greatest challenge, saving all of Minionkind. The film stars Pierre Coffin (as the Minions), Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, and Geoffrey Rush.
Let’s see what the critics had to say!
Comcast had acquired Universal Pictures due to its larger TV operations, but the latter’s theme parks and film studios have become a bigger revenue and profit-generating engine for the company.
But it’s not all good news. So it looks like the little guys will probably be just fine. That’s a prologue that traces the minion story from the time of the T-Rex through Dracula, Napoleon and whole slew of evildoers. “The super-villain we’ve all been waiting for ‘Scarlett Overkill, ‘” the movie introduced.
The toylike Minions are a flawless tie-in for marketers, which carried a lot of the advertising burden for Universal in exchange for rights to use the characters to promote their own products.
Scarlet Overkill wants a little thing that’s sitting on top of Queen Elizabeth’s head, so she enlists the help of the Minions. It’s a botch job, much like the movie.
Minions wholly encompasses the saying “always the bridesmaids, never the bride”. But occupying the star spot instead of the chorus is a burden these fabulous freaks can’t quite shoulder. Delivering more Minions but less heart than their two previous outings (which earned $543 million and $970 million worldwide), this by-popular-demand detour proves that as boundless as the yellow creatures’ appeal may seem, they work better as supporting characters than as the main attraction – not that the Minions will be wearing out their welcome anytime soon.

A spinoff from the successful “Despicable Me” series, “Minions” may hand Universal the box-office lead for the full year, its first win since at least 1998. They are easily distracted, unpredictable, curious and subversively sweet.
