Patriots Rumors: Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell Fantasy Options After Julian

The Patriots lost Edelman in the first half and they look set to be without the 29-year-old for between six to eight weeks.

Another tough blow hits the defending champions New England Patriots as leading receiver Julian Edelman suffered a broken bone in his left foot which requires surgery, but is not expected to keep him out for the season. The fracture is reportedly the same kind of break Dez Bryant had in his foot.

Looking at the Patriots’ schedule within that timeframe, the best-case scenario has Edelman returning to the team in either Week 16 against the NY Jets or Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins – both games are road contests. Therefore, his fantasy season is pretty much over. Amendola doesn’t have the same fantasy upside as his injured teammate, but he must be owned in all fantasy formats.

Another week, another win, and another big injury to the Patriots lineup. And once again, after multiple borderline garbage seasons, the Giants miraculously ended up in the Super Bowl.

His potential to become an elite fantasy receiver has always been there. Most of his 104 yards came on his 87-yard TD catch to open the game.

He really hasn’t had anything like the Adam Vinatieri montage we saw in January and February of 2002 and even the next three seasons. He won’t (and shouldn’t) win it, but he’s definitely one of the five or ten most disruptive defenders in the entire league. One guy can’t score 50 points a game.

October 18, 2015: New England Patriots Wide Receiver Julian Edelman (11) [11715] runs with the football in action during a NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Now with Edelman out, the Patriots have lost two players who accounted for almost 40 percent of the their receptions this year, according to ESPN.

But he did consent to the fact that if he’d simply held onto the ball, the game likely would have turned out differently and everyone would be spared the rigmarole of what defines a catch wouldn’t be necessary. This year, he was on pace for new career-highs in every category. The Giants’ defense twice had opportunities to halt New England’s final drive.

On course to match their 2007 flawless season, the Pats now stand at 9-0.

“Head coach New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick stands on the sidelines” Bill Belichick had plenty of praise for Amendola’s day, including the heady final play. The incomplete pass was the first snap of the Patriots’ game-winning 12-play drive. He also had the two most important catches on the possession.

LaFell caught a 48-yard bomb from Brady in the 27-10 win November 8 over the Redskins.

Those two – and Danny Amendola – have the quickness, toughness and hands to be nearly uncoverable from the line of scrimmage to about 10 yards downfield. He also had an 82-yard punt return that fell just seven yards short of the end zone.
