Rajnath Singh visits People’s Public Security University of China

China is willing to set up a high-level meeting mechanism with India on security to further promote security and law enforcement cooperation, Chinese State Councillor Guo Shengkun said here on Thursday.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today called on Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and discussed efforts to step up security cooperation between the two countries. Guo is expected to join Indian officials in signing a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU) on the security related issues during his visit.

Singh said the two countries played an important role in the world and had witnessed progress in the development of the bilateral ties.

“There is a common recognition by both sides that terrorism is a common threat”. Singh, who arrived here last night on a six-day visit, is set to hold talks with top Chinese leaders and public security officials to strengthen cooperation in a host of areas including combating terrorism, especially in the light of the Paris terror attacks.

The ministerial mechanism would be in addition to various other forum of dialogue between the two countries including the mechanism of special representatives on the border issue.

Besides, Shanghai Cooperation Organization is focused on terrorism issue.

“We also agreed on expanded cooperation in training and capacity building of the security forces”, he said. Both sides agreed the necessity maintain peace and tranquility at the borders while moving towards an early settlement. Shri Rajnath Singh also met the Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Mr. Meng Jian Zhu in a series of meetings held in Beijing. “Visited People’s Public Security University of China in Beijing today”.

In another tweet, he likened the university with India’s National Police Academy at Hyderabad.

The two ministers – Mr. Singh and Mr. Guo – will head this mechanism.
