WADA to Meet With Russian Authorities Over Anti-Doping Code Non-Compliance

However, WADA has yet to lay out exactly what criteria Russia will need to meet to be found compliant, how the country’s anti-doping program will be monitored and whether it will be able to develop a team of independent global inspectors who will be able to oversee the Russian program.

Andersen is in charge of the IAAF’s probe into Russia’s track team in the wake of the report about corruption in the country’s track and anti-doping programs. Nobody voted “no”, though it wasn’t clear whether a few members abstained as the vote was done by raising hands.

“Non-Compliance means anti-doping orgs can not conduct operations until they reinstall quality anti-doping programs& r deemed compliant again”, explained WADA via its Twitter account.

On Wednesday, Olympic legend Ed Moses added his voice to calls for Russian track and field athletes to be barred from next year’s Olympics over the scandal.

“The way I read the report, the testing that took place (at the Olympics) in Sochi is, at least suspect, and perhaps completely worthless”, Cobb said. He said there is a high probability that athletes in other sports in Russian Federation were involved in the country’s doping program. “Our athletes are concerned, particularly the elite athletes, because they feel they are being tarnished with the same brush as those tested positive”, he said.

In one case, a Winter Olympian sent a letter to a WADA representative Tuesday asking for a more thorough look into Russian sports.

Pound also alleged that Kenya has a “real problem with doping”.

Overall, though, there was little debate about the Russian agency (RUSADA), the fate of which has essentially been sealed since Pound’s report came out last week.

WADA official Rene Bouchard said a compliance review committee was “unanimous in its view that RUSADA should be declared non-compliant with immediate effect”. “We are at a crossroads in sports. We urge you to please consider the athletes and sports as a whole”.

“We shall discuss this in the near future and will draw up a few kind of a “road map” with WADA and try to implement it promptly”, the agency cited Mutko as saying. Any information brought forward to me as a result will allow me to make a considered decision on whether or not to extend the Independent Commission’s mandate.

Travis Tygart, the CEO of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, called the lack of action “a gut kick to clean athletes”.

“Make no mistake, we will not rush this process of compliance, we will do it right – the integrity of sport is under threat”, Reedie said in a statement.

“The theme of the day has clearly been investigations”.

“There are going to have to be other sources of revenue”, Moses said.
