Artemi Panarin notched a goal and two assists in Chicago’s 4-3 overtime victory over Edmonton Wednesday night. The Blackhawks allowed an average of 3.6 goals during a 2-4-1 slump before he came back, and they’ve since yielded 2.0 per game while he’s recorded two goals and an assist with a plus-5 rating. This year besides the odd mistake or dumb penalty we’re doing the right things for most of the game.

Winger Patrick Kane has racked up 28 points in 18 games for Chicago. He didn’t return the rest of the night with what coach Joel Quenneville said was an upper-body injury. “But give them credit, they were all over us in the first period, and we got it going a little bit in the second, but that might have been the only stretch where we liked how we were playing”.
“I shortened it up”, Quenneville said. “And, in overtime, the way it goes, three-on-three, anything can happen”.

This is the Oilers first overtime loss of the season, and improves their record to six wins, 12 losses and an overtime loss for a total of 13 points, which still leaves them in last place overall in the 30-team National Hockey League.
Chicago regained the lead with eight minutes left as Shaw fanned on his initial shot but put away his second whack at it to make it 3-2.

In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mark Scheifele and Drew Stafford each had two goals and an assist as Winnipeg ended a six-game losing streak.
The Blackhawks look to complete the Alberta sweep with a win in Calgary on Friday while the Flames desperately need to get rolling in the right direction.
