Like Rick Perry and Scott Walker before, Jindal entered the race late last spring as one of the most accomplished conservative governors with a record of budget-balancing and cost-cutting in the traditionally Democratic state.

Referring to Donald Trump and Ben Carson – though without specifically mentioning the political neophytes by name – Anderson said anyone who “could’ve predicted” they would be the Republican frontrunners is “smarter than anyone else in the world”.

In a statement released by his campaign, the 44-year-old said it was “an honor”, to be part of the process but “this is not my time, so I am suspending my campaign for President”.

“He really did get distracted by the idea, here’s this incredibly gifted young governor who might be president one day, that made him overly focused on Iowa and New Hampshire voters when he could’ve been focusing on solving problems in Louisiana”, Goidel told the Times Picayune.

Jindal suspended his campaign saying: “This is not my time”.

“The Republican Party has to lay out the pathway for why we are the party for opportunity and growth”, Jindal said Tuesday. Indeed, few White House hopefuls in recent memory, especially among Republicans, have brought such an impressive resume to the table: he has experience at the state and federal level, from the legislative and executive branches. Fighting to make a mark in a crowded Republican field, Jindal struggled to gain traction in national polls or to raise the kind of money that could make his candidacy competitive.

In announcing his departure from the race, Jindal also said he would go back to work at his think tank, America Next. Freedom is under assault from both outside our borders and from within.

He never topped 2% in any CNN/ORC poll and never advanced past the “undercard” round at the Republican debates held thus far. Let us take a moment to reflect on Jindal’s departure from the race.

Jindal, 44, seems to have peaked politically when he was chosen to deliver the Republicans’ rebuttal to President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union address in 2009. A tall order for a politician who has had his sights set elsewhere for so long.
