England defeated Pakistan by six wickets

Eoin Morgan has paid tribute to James Taylor after his unbeaten half-century led England to victory over Pakistan in the third one-day worldwide.

Ahead of the crucial contest, former pace spearhead Waqar said that they needed to play well to make it 2-1 and suggested that Pakistan must make sure that they avoid a battling slump like they did in the second match, the Dawn reported.

Taylor once again demonstrated his prowess against spin to register his seventh ODI fifty and share an unbroken 117-run stand of 19.1 overs for the fifth wicket with Jos Buttler, who contributed a timely 49 not out on Tuesday after scoring 16 runs in his previous four innings.

Moeen Ali has been impressive in choking the run flow from the Pakistan batsmen with figures of 10-0-30-1.

“The chase was exceptional”, he said.

“It will be interesting, you never put any limiters on what score you can possibly get but it’s going to be a good challenge and something we’re really looking forward to”. In the overs before the wicket of Hafeez, England’s spinners had bowled with impressive control and slowed the flow of runs to a trickle with six overs costing 17 runs.

The circumstances of a few of their hapless dismissals, including three run-outs, brought a quizzical response from a few on social media.

On Hales reaching three figures in an ODI for the first time, Taylor added: “He played a great knock – him and Jason Roy were outstanding at the top of the order”.

Morgan was not minded to enter afterwards into a discussion about whether another collapse should give rise to those old suspicions.

Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez tried to consolidate with a 47-run stand, but having managed just two fours and two sixes during the course of the partnership, the desperation started to show, and it resulted in a spot of miscommunication between the two as Azhar was run out in the 20th over. England then lost a review when they referred a leg-before decision against Anwar Ali. “That was the period when the whole thing went bad. But in between, every two overs there was a wicket”. This period of vicious turn left England rattled and it suddenly looked like the spinners with ruin the party for England. “But from ball one, the two guys were brilliant”. He stated that the national players are working hard for the upcoming matches.

But Taylor and Buttler would not let it be so.

Mohammad Hafeez top-scored with 45 and Wahab Riaz added a handy 33 not out with the tail as right-arm seamer Chris Woakes took 4-40 for England.
