NY woman donates entire toy store inventory to homeless children
“This is the first time anyone has ever bought out an entire store for a donation to our shelter kids”, Antonio Rodriguez, DHS special events director, said in a statement emailed to CBS MoneyWatch.

Carol Suchman bought up an entire toy store to give away the toys to needy kids. But this time she chose to go big… and bought out the entire STORE.
“There will definitely be a lot of smiles and happy kids when they get these toys”, Suchman said.
So when she walked by this shuttered toy and stationery store in the West Village with a for rent sign in the window, she had an idea.
Volunteers from the homeless charity helped Suchman organize and bag up the toys for distribution in shelters across the city.
“When I saw this toy store, I just realized I could do it on a grander scale than just one”, Shuman said.
After doing a “quick visual inventory” of the store’s inventory of “thousands” of toys ranging from stuffed animals and jigsaw puzzles to school supplies and stickers, she made her offer to the store owner, who was beyond overjoyed with the asking price.
Homelessness has been on the rise in NY City, which is affecting thousands of children. “We are grateful for this generous donation and are excited to be able to bring a few joy to these children who have so little this holiday season”.
It’s not unusual at this time of year for people to donate a toy or two for those in need.

“My whole life I’ve only given anonymously”, she said. “And people do toy drives and do a lot of giving”.
