Edgar Wright To Take On Shadows For New Dreamworks Animation Project

So the news from The Wrap that he’s getting to try his hand at making an animated movie – one for DreamWorks Animation about shadows, no less – is utterly fantastic.

Given how inventive and creative the director has proven to be with his previous films, having Wright helm this project really does seem rather flawless.

Miller’s action comedy Ex-Criminals, meanwhile, is still in its early stages. Though Miller isn’t a stranger to the big screen-he was a voice actor in Big Hero 6, co-stars in upcoming R-rated superhero movie Deadpool, and let’s not forget Yogi Bear 3D-it’d be his first true starring vehicle.

DreamWorks Animation previously developed a project called Me and My Shadow and offered a glimpse of artwork in 2012, but it never came to fruition.

“Edgar will spearhead a new approach to this fascinating concept and we’re ecstatic to have him onboard as director along with David as co-writer”, DreamWorks Animation’s Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria said in a joint statement.

Wright, who broke out in a big way with the British TV series Spaced and then began a successful run of feature films with Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and most recently the brilliant The World’s End, is a pitch-perfect fit for the world of animation.

Overseeing the project for DreamWorks are Gregg Taylor and Damon Ross.

This movie will mark 41-year-old Wright’s first animation venture. He’s also attached to a project with Johnny Depp based on Fortunately, the Milk, a Neil Gaiman story.

Wright is repped by CAA, Independent Talent Group and Anonymous Content. Little Britain c0-creator and co-star and Britain’s Got Talent judge Walliams is repped by CAA and Troika. A best-selling children’s author, Walliams’ books have sold more than 10 million copies to date.
