The proud new dad named his son Bermondsey Millwall Den Bloomfield – without telling his wife, it should be added – in the hope that it would encourage his son to follow in his footsteps.

He told the newspaper: “If David Beckham can name his son Brooklyn, then I can name mine Bermondsey”.
“I just love Millwall and this is a good way to get the next generation involved”, he beamed.
Millwall fans are famous for their chant of “No-one likes us, we don’t care” but one supporter has tested the love of his wife to the limit by naming their child after the club without her knowledge. She’s just started talking to me again.
She said: “He did say he might do it but I didn’t expect it. He was a bit frightened to come home!”
His wife later told the paper the name was “growing on me …”
Mr Bloomfield said: “I got the cold shoulder for a couple of days”.
I can only imagine that this “change” of heart came after some intense begging, pleading and maybe a few nights in the doghouse.
Mike grew up in the south-east London borough where the League One club play their home games at the New Den.
“The amusing thing is that we actually live in Croydon and are surrounded by Crystal Palace fans”.
Bermondsey, whose arrival was unexpected, was to be named Houdini after the famous illusionist Harry Houdini, but Mike said he “thought better of it”.

He is not the first addition to the family to be named in honour of Millwall – their pet dog is called Kitchener after club legend Barry Kitchener.
