Cincinnati police want hate crime charges filed in July 4 attack

I saw 40 v. 1, it was 40 black youths stomping the crap out of one unlucky male white.

Well not so much, it was like 40 v. 1. He didn’t do anything to deserve this beating except be white.

“We’re going to literally have hundreds and hundreds of police officers highly visible all weekend and this city’s really going to shine”, Cranley said.

We’ve all seen these classic lynching photos. “Feel bad for the guy since he nor anyone deserved a beat down like that for no reason…”

Right after the crime, Cincinnati prosecutors indicated they didn’t think it was a “hate crime” even though the initial police report clearly indicated it was all of that.

Cincinnati Police Officer Alicia Essert called the beating “anti white” in the incident report, but at a news conference about the incident, Cincinnati Police Capt. Mike Neville backed off that claim, calling it a “mistake”, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported. He was released from the hospital Sunday night. Sixty officers were called to the area as the violence unfolded.

The video shows several black teens punching and choking 27-year-old Christopher McKnight, while another individual wearing a red t-shirt appears to be attempting to deter the attackers.

The man’s face was covered in blood as he lay motionless late Saturday in the city’s Fountain Square neighborhood. Blackwell asked the Prosecutor to consider hate crime charges on Wednesday.

Cincinnati Police Captain Michael Neville said fireworks were being discharged at officers and items were being thrown at officers. “It is up to his office whether to pursue the charge with a grand jury, who will make the final decision”, the Inquirer reported.

What was supposed to be a fun night celebrating the Fourth of July in Cincinnati turned into a nasty display of less-than-proper behavior by an unruly mob Saturday night. He blamed poor planning for the problems, including too few officers and allowing a concert aimed at teenagers to end after the city’s curfew.

A melee broke out on Fountain Square at about 11 p.m. Saturday just as a hip-hop concert was ending.
