School Apologizes for ISIS Poster Assignment
A Utah school apologized Thursday for a classroom assignment in which students were asked to create a propaganda poster for a group such as Islamic State to understand the goals and methods of terror groups.

“There were just over 60 students involved in this assignment and we’ve had four phone calls or communication with parents that had concerns”. But a few students had already finished it, and Langston now wonders what exactly they were exposed to while completing it.
Her mother thinks it’s an inappropriate topic for her teenager to explore while the world remains on high alert after recent threats from the deadly terrorist organization.
“My initial response was, ‘there’s no way you’re going to do this assignment, ‘” Langston said she told her daughter.
Utah’s 2KUTV, a CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City, was informed of the assignment after an anonymous parent called to express concern, fearing their child would end up on an Federal Bureau of Investigation watch list for researching terrorist propaganda.
Langston said: “In light of what happened in Paris, is that the reason for this assignment? I feel a different assignment or report could’ve been chosen or a discussion in class about the tragic events”, she wrote, Fox reported.
She says the teacher is apologetic and has met with administrators but no disciplinary action is planned. Assignments that were already turned in were later shredded, Langston said the principal told her.
According to KUTV, the teacher who assigned the poster is in her first year, and the assignment was not approved by the school.
