Chevrolet Volt Wins Green auto Of The Year Award

The Volt has won the prize in a year full of racy competitors – among them the equally new, fourth-generation 2016 Toyota Prius, the top selling hybrid model across the planet.

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt has been named the Green auto of the Year by Green vehicle Journal.

“This is the first time in Green auto of the Year history that a vehicle has won the award in two succeeding model generations”, said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green auto Journal and CarsOfChange.com.

With three plug-in hybrids, a hybrid and a good old internal combustion engine in the running, this year’s list of finalists lacked the green vehicle sexiness of any pure electrics, but the lineup was still a solid one.

This year’s LA auto show starts with the Press and Trade Days on Wednesday before it opens to the public on Friday and will run until November 29 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

That model could only go 38 miles on electricity alone.

The Volt will be a cornerstone of marketing campaigns, he said. The nomination is selected by a panel of judges, including on celebrity guest, with Jay Leno appraising that role this year. Availability to the mass market is important to ensure honored models have the potential to make a real difference in environmental impact, and finalists must be available for sale by January of the award year. This is the 10th year of the award that named the BMW i3, a plug-in hybrid made of carbon fiber, as the victor last year. The magazine’s CarsOfChange.com site presents “green car” articles online along with a focus on connectivity.
