Vietnam War veterans thankful times have changed
“I’m glad they’re finally giving veterans their just rewards”, he said.

As the names of their fallen comrades were read during the ceremony, several Vietnam veterans in attendance knelt down and gripped the stone wall dedicated in their honor with their heads bowed. I’ve spoken at many programs for Memorial and Veteran’s Day and this is something that we do because we are proud of our service to our country.
The armistice ending World War I was signed on this day in 1918 in France and went into effect later that morning. Retired Vietnam veteran Eddie Kennison talked about the difficulties he faced.

Veteran’s Day originally came into existence shortly after World War I when it was known as Armistice Day, marking the end of what was known then as the Great War on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.
Uzumeckis, himself a Vietnam veteran, helped honor those in attendance who served during the Vietnam era of 1955 to 1975.
The damp, gusty winds and spritzes of rain were not a challenge for the more than 50 Vietnam War veterans who were recognized for their service at the annual Greenwich Covenant of Military Care Veterans Day walk in downtown Greenwich Wednesday.
“It’s very important to remember that there are young veterans, too, who have served recently”, said Peters, who lives in Glenview. Vietnam War veterans weren’t welcomed home with parades or thanked much for their service. “We are constantly engaged with them and we have [city and federal] resources that get each and every one of them into a good home”.
“It’s not the memorials to me it is the look of the veterans faces it’s looking and seeing their smile and seeing them…”
Dozens of people in attendance heard of the history of Veteran’s Day, as well as how it’s celebrated in other countries.

“It’s tradition, I came here to be with my brothers and sisters”, his brother Gordon Fox said, who served in the Marine Corps in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972.
