BJP scrambles to defend Narendra Modi, Amit Shah after Advani bombshell

Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh are part of the group, besides ailing former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He also said the BJP had lost elections under Advani’s leadership too.

Congress leader P.C. Chacko on Wednesday welcomed the BJP veterans’ criticism of the party’s top brass for the crushing defeat in Bihar, saying the dictatorial tendencies within the ruling party is something to be opposed.

While the alliance has improved its tally in the Rajya Sabha from 60 when it started off in May 2014 to 64 by adding a new alliance partner and winning the elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, it has been unsuccessful in clearing the much needed land reform and GST bills in the upper house. He said that arrogant and dictatorial Modi government had been involved in a campaign to destabilize the Congress governments in the country and it had also stopped the funding under various centrally sponsored schemes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has suffered a heavy defeat in the closely-watched Bihar state elections, possibly opening up fresh threats to his ambitious reform program.

Hitting out at the BJP leadership for inducting leaders from outside to micromanage the campaign in Bihar, Sinha said: “A large number of leaders were collected from outside, a few from Punjab, a few from Maharashtra and Delhi, who were completely out of touch with grassroots and ground reality, who did not understand the caste equations here, nor had control over the local dialects”. They have handed a resounding defeat to the BJP and its allies.

“Modi tried to fool the people of Bihar, but they saw through his nefarious designs and gave him a fitting reply”, Mr. Prasad told media persons in Patna.

A three-party alliance won an absolute majority, bagging 178 seats in a 243-seat legislature in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance with only 58 seats.

Realising that the JD(U) can not match the resources of BJP, Kishor’s team also devised the Har Ghar Dastak (knock on every door) that helped the party establish a personal connect with the masses. Bihar was the best chance for the BJP to win state elections before 2017. Obviously, all Party members are concerned with the results of the Assembly Elections in Bihar. Prakash, who works for a consultancy major in United Kingdom, said he would never support Lalu after what he saw in the mid-90s in his hometown, and will go for “Nitish in the state and Modi at the Centre”.

But voices of discontent have been steadily mounting in the BJP since the Bihar results came out on Sunday.

Modi tweeted that he had called to congratulate Kumar, whose regional “grand alliance” could now become a template for politicians seeking to prevent Modi’s march toward untrammeled power under India’s federal system.
