As I did a little background investigation into the Rocky film series, I learned that Apollo Creed’s name was based on Christian theological understanding of the Canonical gospels.

Frustrated with the lack of progress in his attempt to become an actor, Stallone famously wrote the screenplay for the first “Rocky” film himself and adamantly turned down offers to buy the script from any studio who would not let him play the lead.
Seeing Rocky and Apollo running on the beach in the extra-short shorts and hugging each other in slow motion in the ocean, is about as non-manly as one could get. When you don’t adhere to that and you give in, you’re going to regret it. It’ll come back to haunt you.
Rocky 3 (1983) raised the bar, bringing a parallel to the story as a retired Apollo decides to train his new friend Rocky Balboa in preparation after a loss to despicable Clubber Lang (Mr T). “So I finally agreed to do it after I was shamed for my narrow-mindedness”.
Like a lot of people director Ryan Coogler has a personal connection to the Rocky movies. His father raised him on the Rocky films, so the franchise always had a special significance to him. I am proud to say she has now ventured out into the entrepreneur lane and we are riding it together. However, I do believe there is a renewed interest in what I am hoping will be a new line of legacy starting with my own family. That’s what makes those movies so great.
That said, Creed is a boxing movie, which means that several people will be beaten to a bloody pulp before it’s over. “The “Rocky” movies had it in their DNA”. “To be trusted with these characters that Sly built his career on… it’s an honor”.
While technically the second “Rocky” entry in the new millennium, following the Stallone-directed “Rocky Balboa” in 2006, it’s the first to capture a wholly contemporary feel.
I may catch a few hell for this one, but it’s hard to put this over Rocky IV and the original. This allowed Jordan to start training, change his diet dramatically, and be consistent with his workouts.
Mary Ann raises Adonis (called Donnie) in great wealth and, when he comes of age, he’s working in the financial sector in Los Angeles by day, but sneaking to a boxing circuit in Tijuana by night. “I was a sponge and tried to pick up as much as I could from everybody, while we were still trying to define Adonis’ fighting style”.
Like in Rocky, Creed has a love story. In its own way, Donnie and Bianca’s unconventional relationship quietly echoes the sweet and supportive one between Rocky and Adrian. She wanted to make sure the love story was something that millennials could relate to.

“I think the city is so present in the film”. Most amusing, however, was Rocky actually wins over the Russian fight fans who eventually turn against Drago. “We all had gut feelings about which one was best, and the tests didn’t answer the questions”. It’s probably the truest training moment in the whole movie, unflinching in its portrayal of the early-morning wakeups and the grueling training that inevitably follows. It even told a tale about how Rocky had to retire due to his repeated trauma to his brain.
