“We’ll take a few interest right now and convert that into the substance of what we’re talking about”.

Obama, 54, recounted to reporters a phone call he’d made to Trudeau to congratulate him on his recent election win at the youthful age of 43. The same could be said of Barack Obama and Stephen Harper.

“This crisis is not just about a humanitarian project this also sends a great message to ISIS that you might create this environment for us, but we will not let you take advantage of this”, said Sajjan.

Environmentalists were dissatisfied with Trudeau’s statement on the garbage issue.

President Obama said Thursday that Syrian refugees are no more unsafe to the US than tourists, and he accused Republican presidential candidates of stoking fears about the refugees and closing the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention center to score political points.

Foreign affairs minister Stephane Dion and trade minister Chrystia Freeland are telling TPP allies that Canada’s new government is pro-trade but also that it intends to put the deal to a full consultation in Parliament. But Obama told this summit he wants countries to move swiftly towards ratification.

“It is clear from the president’s remarks that he is already guiding the prime minister through the TPP door”, said Fen Hampson, head of the global security and politics program at the Centre for worldwide Governance Innovation.

Trudeau and Obama were all smiles on Thursday in the Philippines.

Their 23-minute meeting covered a range of topics, including the fight against Islamic extremism, the refugee crisis and the economy.

“I made a clear commitment to Canadians to withdraw the six fighter jets”, Trudeau said on the sidelines of a trade summit in Manila, referring to the six Canadian jets that have been attacking the militants in Iraq and Syria, Reuters reported.

Obama, whose ties with Harper were usually frosty, said he hoped Trudeau would be able to visit him in the White House early next year for more substantial talks. He tossed aside altogether a question about whether he would reconsider his decision to block TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline now that Trudeau was in office. At the time, Obama had environmental concerns about approving the transport of dirty oil from Alberta across the United States.

On his first week of travels – to the G20 in Turkey and the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in the Philippines – Trudeau’s footing stayed sure for the most part, but he faces a challenging path moving forward.

Pineda argued that, “the illegal garbage imports have nowhere to go, but Canada and the development of a [so-called] “Canadian solution” should not be used as an excuse to justify the extended stay of the trash consignments in the country for temporary storage or permanent disposal”.

“We make no apologies for that, but I also think we have to recognize if we want to preserve this planet for our kids and grandkids, we’re going to have to shift increasingly away from carbon emitting energy sources”, the president said.
