Three Rangers personnel martyred in terrorist attack in Karachi

Unknown gunmen killed four paramilitary soldiers as they guarded a mosque in Pakistan’s volatile megacity of Karachi Friday, officials said.

Resultantly, three Rangers personnel lost their lives while another sustained injuries.

According to Police and Rangers sources, the incident occurred when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at the vehicle of the Rangers.

In separate statements, they said that such attacks would not deter the resolve of the LEAs to fight criminal elements in the metropolitan.

“Perhaps the mosque and the affiliated madrassa were the target of the terrorists”, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar told media at the spot. As a result of the attack, four Rangers’ personnel received bullets out of which, three were blown off, while one is still breathing and being given treatment at hospital.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack on the Rangers personnel in Karachi.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced compensation of two million rupees each for the Rangers jawans who were martyred in an attack in Karachi on Friday.

The Rangers and other Pakistani security forces have been engaged in a three-year-long operation against militants and crime in the southern city.

Since January, 79 policemen have been gunned down in different parts of the city.
