The incident happened at 3.55pm (4.55am Saturday, Singapore time) with NY on alert after the Paris attacks ahead of the holiday season that formally kicks off with the Thanksgiving parade next Thursday.

While media outlets are reporting the store was not evacuated, social media posts from people working in the same building differ.

The man, wearing a hat and sunglasses, was seen swinging the sword before dropping it to the floor.

He then stands, points and walks down the stairs shouting, sword resting on his shoulder, according to the video.

Police say that security stopped the man from properly entering the store and that two off-duty officers were able to subdue.
